Module 0: Pre-Work
Discover Your Personal Brand
You can think of your personal brand as a compass that guides the many decisions you make, day to day, as you move forward. It determines how you “show up” in your business – and to an extent, acting in a way that is consistent with your personal brand gives your brand integrity.
Let’s dive in to a fun exercise and brainstorm ways you can bring your personal brand to your business.

Examples
Here are some quick examples from previous Blog Smarter grads of people they most admire, traits they wanted to reflect in their brand, plus practical ways to do that.
- Tim Ferriss (entrepreneur), always experimenting – “Our audience struggles with ingredient substitutions and food allergies, and they would appreciate us doing the experimenting for them.”
- Oprah Winfrey, generosity – “My goal is to give away half of everything I earn. I keep that secret. Maybe I shouldn’t.”
- Ray Eames (artist and designer), curiosity – “Write about projects and activities that are naturally weird and wonderful and projects that bring out the curious scientist in all of us.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr, commitment to the higher good – “Speak out for what I stand for. Bring more actionable steps to reclaim early childhood from what threatens it.”
- Katy Bowman (women’s fitness expert), confidence – “Quit beating around the bush. Say what I mean to say, and say it with confidence. No more saying: ‘In my opinion’ or ‘you might want to’ or anything passive. Be straight, be forward, be strong.”
- My mom, positivity – “Offer words of encouragement and an upbeat persona, writing with a ‘you can do this’ attitude as well as celebrating failure and lessons learned.”
